COREtec: Southeastern North Carolina’s Perfect Floor

We know what you’re thinking: “Is there even such thing as a perfect floor? What is COREtec, and why is it so good for North Carolinians?”

We’re here to tell you that yes, there is such thing — and it’s COREtec. COREtec is an engineered luxury vinyl plank and tile. It’s made right here in the U.S., and it represents the newest wave of flooring technology: water-resistant, stain-resistant, durable, comfortable to walk on, with the look and feel of much more expensive materials.

But why is it good for North Carolinians? For much of the year, eastern North Carolina’s climate can be described somewhere between “damp” and “swamp-like.” The humidity and heat is exactly how we get our gorgeous deep-green landscape, but with it comes mold, mildew, and occasional flooding. If you live at the beach, chances are you’re well-acquainted with wet, sandy floors and intermittent tropical storms—and all the moisture-related flooring problems that they bring.

COREtec, though, is 100% waterproof. This means that it has the look and feel of hardwood without any of the warping and buckling that would happen with real wood—and it naturally resists mold and mildew.

Now, we know what you’re thinking again: “I’ve seen vinyl hardwood, and it was obvious it was vinyl.” But the truth is, with COREtec, most people think it’s real wood.

There’s a science behind this. With luxury vinyl flooring, it’s not just a photograph printed on a sheet of vinyl. Using state-of-the-art printing technology, manufacturers mimic the textures of hardwood or stone floors, so the floor actually feels like wood or stone when you touch it. Plus, you can buy COREtec’s luxury vinyl as wide planks, which provides a more realistic match to today’s hardwood floors.

What are some other benefits of COREtec?

    • Durability: COREtec has been rated highly on commercial durability standards. It features a 20mil wear layer, and two coats of acrylic finish for stain- and scratch-resistance.
    • Comfort: COREtec looks like wood (or stone), but feels like cork. This means it’s much quieter to walk on and it retains warmth much better.
    • Cork backing: The addition of a cork backing provides COREtec floors with additional sound insulation, absorbs subfloor imperfections, and repels mold and mildew. Plus, it makes the floor that much more comfortable to walk on.
    • Cost-effective: Though it’s not the cheapest option out there, compared to the cost of real hardwood or stone tiles, COREtec is the more cost-effective, durable choice.
